GENERAL TOPOGRAPHY
The ranch is situated in the foothills of the Soutpansberg range of mountains. This range forms a large undulating rocky rift along the eastern and southern boundaries of the ranch, with a deep flat valley roughly in the centre of the property. As a result of the variation in topography the habitat differs widely. The rocky mountainous area is the preferred habitat of game species such as greater kudu, impala, eland and leopard, while the flatter valley areas are home to gemsbok, blue wildebeest and zebra.

WATER
Water used on the ranch is pumped from boreholes. The water and soil are rich in minerals, which contributes to the animals being exceptionally large and sought after as hunting trophies. There are three fully-equipped boreholes with new diesel engines and pumps. In addition, there are five low-level pans and four reservoirs of approximately 10m in diameter. A network of pipes from the various reservoirs distributes the water to the low-level pans, providing adequate drinking water on all parts of the ranch.

Baobab tree

VEGETATION
Vegetation consists of valley bushveld characterised by very large baobab trees. Because of the superb variation and abundance of trees and various grass types, the ranch forms the ideal habitat for antelope such as kudu, gemsbok, eland, zebra and wildebeest.

ESTIMATE OF PRESENT GAME POPULATIONS
The game populations are estimated to be as follow:

  • Giraffe (20)
  • Impala (300)
  • Greater kudu (70)
  • Gemsbok (25)
  • Red hartebeest (25)
  • Blue Wildebeest (40)
  • Zebra (20/30)
  • Ostrich (20)
  • Eland (30)
  • Waterbuck (30)

Reasonable numbers of the following species also occur:
Warthog (40), steenbok (30), klipspringer (20), grey duiker (30), leopard, bushpig and cheetah.

GENERAL
The improvements carried out over the past number of years have resulted in the ranch becoming a viable economic proposition. The hunting camp, cold-room, meat factory, managerÆs residence and office block are attractive and functional. All water pumps are either new or recently overhauled and in excellent condition. The network of approximately 60km of road makes most areas of the ranch easily accessible by motor vehicle. This is essential for the carrying out of efficient night-cropping operations, live game capture, viewing and hunting. A sound veld management plan is in operation.

ACTIVITIES PRODUCING INCOME
Primary activities producing income are:

  • Safari hunting for the overseas tourist and the local hunter.
  • Live sale of game at an annual auction.
  • The sale of biltong and meat on the ranch to visitors from the Tshipise resort.
  • Photographic safaris.

    CONCLUSION
This is an exceptional game ranch and property. It is seldom that a property of this nature comes on the market.
